found a few of them in the same unc roll last week , are they errors or just a mechanical malfunction ? theYou do not have permission to view this gallery.

no legal tender intended for circulation copper/bronze usa coin has reeds except 1795 s-79. there may be some patterns, commems etc tho. i seem to remember at least an indian cent pattern with reeds?
those marks i'd say are 99% from being punched from stock. i doubt it is common but i'd say probably not too rare either.
if there is anything special about them and/or extra value, i am unaware. people collect the darndest things, ya know?
i'm sure error-ref has a good explanation if you wanna dig over there. not a bad way to spend your numismatic time.coinfacts.com - conecaonline.info - board.conecaonline.org/forum/numismatic-site-links - briansvarietycoins.com - coppercoins.com - cuds-on-coins.com - doubleddie.com - error-ref.com - franklinlover.yolasite.com - ikegroup.info -lincolncentresource.com - maddieclashes.com - money.org - ngccoin.com/price-guide/world - ngccoin.com/census - ngccoin.com/resources/counterfeit-detection - nnp.wustl.edu - pcgs.com/pop - pcgs.com/coinfacts - pcgs.com/photograde - varietyvista.com - vamworld.com

In my opinion, those are not reeds. They are not deep enough nor are they equally spaced out.
Those marks may have been from the blanking machine which cuts out the blanks from strips of metal.Gary Kozera
