Mint mark question

So I was hunting through some quarters and found a weird mint mark error on a 1980-D. I though PMD but then I found another one with similar issues. I asked on another forum and the expert there told me no m/m errors were reported for that run of quarters so I’m hoping someone here can take a look and tell me what’s going on. My scope isn’t the best so sorry in advance if they aren’t good enough pictures. IMG_2998.jpg

In my opinion, you are right about the photos. A clear close up photo of the mint mark is needed. The 5th photo (close up attempt of the mintmark) looks like PMD. Its difficult to know what did it. Once coins hit circulation, PMD has open season rights for just about any coin and from any type of damage. That fifth photo shows clear damage to the west (left) of the mintmark - its blurry but it is in very close proximity to the mint mark and probably the culprit.

Just so you know, RPM's are considered varieties and not errors.

RPM's are commonly checked at this website. They have enough "spread" to be considered "listable" by CONECA standards.

One last suggestion - crop your photos. If there is more background than coin, then your losing valuable real estate to show coin, vice an orange background.
