CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Die chip would be the wrong terminology. What you are referring to is a "clip", but what it looks like here is someone with a lot of time and a file. Clips that happen at the mint are very very clean. if you will notice the edge of your "clip" there is a rough rim also filing down the last 5 in the date.

This is a genuine curved clip. The coin shows a Blakesley effect at the pole opposite the clip, and the design rim tapers and fades out as it approaches the clip. Both are strong indicators of authenticity. I can't tell if the last 5 shows metal flow, but if it does, that's a third indicator. I don't know why the field is a bit rough next to the clip, but that's not enough to counter the other diagnostics.
