CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. This is die damage. It looks like a combination of a die attrition error and burr that sometimes forms on the internal margin of such an error. A die attrition error develops when a misaligned die smacks repeatedly against the beveled entrance to the collar. This wears away the edge of the field portion of the die and sometimes the rim gutter. The year 1983 produced a bumper crop of die attrition errors among cents.
