    1985-P Quarter Rockwell test coin?

I wanted to know if the raised "dot" on the back of the coin and underneath the branches is due to a Rockwell test on the die? Can anyone explain to me how this got there? I believe this coin is from a really overused die because of the mushy looking devices on the coin which makes me think it could be due to die deterioration. I'm not sure though. Thanks for the help and answers! Here are pictures.

This is almost certainly a die erosion pit. It's a fairly common manifestation of worn dies, and this is clearly a very late die state.
