CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1949 D wheat penny error?

    1949 D wheat penny error?

    I found this coin in some bank rolls I had bought. Someone turned in 10 rolls of wheats. Does anyone think this is a mint error? Looking at it through a magnifying glass, it does not look modified or hit. The 9 looks like partly a 7.2016-03-10 09.04.43.jpg

    Damage from the crimping arm of a coin-wrapping machine. Very common.

        Very common damage; some say from parking meters of the era. Never seen any of these "slashed" characters with circulars marks so probably not from a coin wrapping operation.
