Salt river bay "weak letters"
In a roll of new Salt river bay P quarters I found a few that have weak lettering in the word "STATES". The abnormalities were not consistent and I attached photos of 2 examples here. Is this an example of a filled die? If this coin were to be graded would it suffer in the strike category of the grading scale? You do not have permission to view this gallery.

This very much looks like it was struck through grease. Since grease is somewhat viscous, and also may have tiny particles of contaminants in it, it can move a bit between strikes. That could account for the inconsistencies you mention. I personally couldn't think of any reason for a coin like this to be graded. It would be a waste of money. If it were, that area could result in a hit in the striking category.Bob Piazza
