Planchet crack?
I discussed this coin in an email a few months ago and while cleaning off my desk realized I never posted a photo for general consumption. I pulled this coin from a new roll. The general email consensus was this is likely a planchet crack. My internet search for planchet cracks did not yield any useful images for Washington quarters. If this is typical it will be posted for future reference. If you have other thoughts please share them. You do not have permission to view this gallery.

I had put down a lot of information I thought about concerning this post. However, after going through some of my paperwork, I recalled an article written by Mike Diamond about 5 years ago. Based on his info, I would say you do not have a cracked planchet, but please read the article and we will see what you think after that. (My personal take is that this is a regular die crack)

It could be a very minor flaw in the planchet, or some small struck through. Even off light damage to the coin. No matter, it's just too small. Planchet flaws or struck throughs need to naked eye obvious to command a premium.Jason Cuvelier
