199? LMC- Major Grease Strike thru or Struck through Capped Die?
Looking for help in how you determine if something is a grease strike thru or something more "error" like- i.e. struck through capped die....From what I have read and researched, a late state capped die strike thru can leave the impression of the original die if the Cap has become thin enough. Anyone care to guess what I have here? As you can see, the reverse is STRONGLY struck which could be caused by excessive pressure.Tags: None

If you want it attributed or identified as a struck through, you can send it to a third party grading service like PCGS, ANACS, or NGC. All of those places would slab it as such but you need to be sure you put it on the inventory sheet. Remember that some times, the cost of the encapsulation would not make up for the value of the item. There would be no CONECA number assigned to errors like this.Bob Piazza

It could be a struck through grease - or maybe struck through a very late staged die cap as suggested. I can't make the call from these photos.
If I looked at it, I can send a letter or we can ask Mark Lightman. I am not sure it's worth sending it in to a TPG. What's the motivation? I am afraid you'd spend more on TPG fees than it would ever be worth.

Check the submission fees for ANACS and ICG as they'll be more reasonable.
And try and post a few more photos and I'll see if I can make the call from the photos. "Stuck thru a late staged die cap" is much cooler than "struck thru grease."Jason Cuvelier
