  • 1964 WASHINGTON QUARTER ERROR?

I am looking at a 1964 Washington Quarter. At first glance, it looked to me to be post mint damage but when I looked closer at the date the '4' looks odd. Why if this was post mint damage would the '4' be like doubled like it is? Comments or thoughts?

It appears to be a hit. Seeing that the coin is damaged, it is more likely that's what it is. Notice that the 4 is the normal thickness, even with the line through the crosslet.

Hello Bob, Thanks...I looked at a number of other 1964 and you are right about the size of the '4'. Cheers
