  • 1954S LINCOLN PENNY 'FILLED 9'?

I am looking at an extremely nice red 1954S Lincoln cent that I pulled out of a mint set 20 years ago. I had marked on the flip '9' error. I was looking at it today and went to ANACS to see any pop for a die cud and found a listing for "FILLED 9". Is the subject coin that error?

This is a die chip (or interior die break). Whether or not it is the same one that ANACS calls a 'Filled 9', is unknown. There were a few different 1954S cents with die chips in the date. These are not considered Cuds. Cuds encompass the edges of the coin, and you can see plenty of those at this link:

Currently, your coin is not listed at this site.

UPDATE - The coin was submitted to ANACS and came back as a "FILLED 9" (a listing in their pop.) and "DIE CHIP AT DATE". Cheers, Bruce.
