  • 2017 S Kennedy Half Dollar - Struck Thru?

Hello - Just picked up a 225th Anniversary Enhanced Uncirculated Mint Set for my Collection- The half dollar has a divot/ hole which appears to have some slightly raised metal at edge of hole. I have gotten some initial advice that this could be struck thru slag?

Normally, a struck through would not have the raised metal edge like you mentioned. Even so, I wouldn't rule out a struck through all together. I do not know at what point this damage may have occurred, but I am thinking maybe during the process of putting it in the packaging.

One other observation is the inside of this divot looks shiny/polished. I imagine they make this similar to a reverse proof and polish the planchett then the die is prepared to make all other areas have that satin finsh. The letters / numbers devices have the mirror/polished look. I really dont know how they made this defect but its a bit deep for an incidental during packaging. Very odd.
