CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    1971-D 1C no designer initials? - "completely gone"

    Hello everyone, I have learned something from just about every subject I have posted or read from past CONECA posts. So, I just want to thank each-and-every one of you, for your time and expertise you share with all of us. While this 1971-D looks a bit rough with the black patina and all, the reverse seems to have a pretty good strike for a 50-year-old circulated coin. As always, any input, suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated.

    ***I posted some extra photos with slightly different lighting shots and a microscope closeup, I hope they help.

    Very nice photos. The initials may have been struck through grease or were abraded away. A few folks collect these, but there is not a big market for them and they are worth little.

      Thank you Bob, I appreciate your insights on this one, doing further internet searches, I assumed as much. I've seen lots of other coins, that only show the slightest traces of the initials, but nothing this clean. It's still a keeper to me, thanks again.
