1983 D Lincoln Cent error? - raised line on reverse - cracks & a lump under mint mark
Hey all, I found this 1983 D Lincoln cent yesterday and noticed how odd it looked! So the obverse side has these very fine cracks (3 to be precise) and also there’s is this raised circle like mound underneath the D mint mark…on the reverse is this one straight raised line that runs through the memorial building. Any ideas if this is a discovered error? I tried searching all over the internet and found nothing similar. You do not have permission to view this gallery.

You have two areas that can be identified as plating issues. That is the circle around the mintmark, and the long linear line running NE - SW on the reverse. I do not know what the anomalies are on the obverse though. The area under LIBERTY looks like a possible struck through, but there is evidence that suggests some of the scratches on the face are post mint damage. I will wait for further input to see if anyone else agrees/disagrees with my assessment.Bob Piazza

Thank you for that info! And yes I noticed the scratches on the obverse as well, I assume someone who had this penny before me tried to get the dirt off, was definitely sad to see the scratches. But all in all I think it is still a neat looking Lincoln! I appreciate the reply!
