CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1986 D Ghost of Lincoln Cent

This coin has been around the block a few times before it made to my pocket change but it's not in the worst shape. I called it the Ghost of Lincoln because the mint seemed to have left out a few device details on the reverse including the star of the show.

The Mint didn't leave anything out. I can see evidence of the statue in your pics. There are other things that can lead to this anomaly, and that is weak strikes, or abrading. Even circulation wear can have an affect on some devices. Either way, the Mint did not leave anything out. If you were just trying to be funny, I apologize for being too frank.

I just found it to be an interesting conversation piece. I think it was caused by material buildup in parts of the die, considering the strong strike around it. Silly me.
