CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 2021 DDO DDR?

Looking through my pocket change found what looks like class 7 doubling on the obverse? Some hub doubling on reverse?20220116_192005.jpg 20220116_192135.jpg

Can you provide a closer/sharper picture of the "IN" in the IGWT motto?

You can not have a class 7 doubled die (Modified Hub Doubling) as they can not be made with a single squeeze hubbing. A class 7 was made when one hub was used and then a different and modified hub was used the next time it was hubbed. The US Mint started experimenting with the single squeeze hubbings in the late 80s, and started using it on all coinage in 1999.

I'll study more mustbebob as I do enjoy looking for varieties. Found some interesting lincoln cents last week or so. 20220117_220309.jpg

Thank you. I thought I saw something on the "IN" but now I believe it was how the coin lit up in the first photograph. Unless I missed something, I am not seeing doubling.

20220130_034307.jpg Apologies I've uploaded the wrong images for this post here are the intended images. 20220130_034307.jpg i found around a dozen or so of these 2021 Lincoln Sheild cents this being the best of them. The others show lighter thickness and die cracks in different areas

I personally think the image is not clear enough.
Three most important things in coin photography: Lighting, Focus and Size.

For newer coinage, one has to change the mindset on what a DDO and DDR might look like.
They are not the same as coinage of 1995 and before.

In the mid 1990's the US mint changed the way they make the working dies.
The dies are made under a single squeeze technique using a massive amount of tonnage to make the image of the coin complete after that single squeeze.

In MY opinion, any coin that is subject to a single squeeze technique is by definition not a doubled die.
There are reports of coins after 1995 that are doubled dies, but in my opinion, all they appear to be is rolled metal from the excessive tonnage applied to the working die. In the older coins, if we see this shift, we call it mechanical doubling, mechanical damage or otherwise.

This approach should be taken in light of how dies are struck as well - they can be subjected to the same style treatment, but since some of these coins "look different" they are accepted as varieties. I personally will not invest in these newer potential DDO's and DDR's because, by definition, they are not.

So youre saying all 3 2014 DDOs are just MD? All coins after 95 are not doubled dies? Ok What do you call them?

THAT was my opinion. I am not here to prove anything to anyone. I am not making this a debate. Enough said.
