CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few.     1989p dime uncentered broadstrike or offcenter strike?

    This 1989p dime appears to be an uncentered broadstrike but I wanted to be sure. I was questioning myself to if it was a offcenter strike but all the devices are present. Thanks in advance for any reply or correction comments.

    If it has reeds, it is not a broadstrike. It would also be larger because of the absence of a collar. It seems you posted this coin on another forum and was not happy with the responses from those folks. It seems you are concerned about the rims being flattened? What do you think would cause an error like that? I think the misaligned die works as rationale for this anomaly. You can indeed have misaligned dies on both the obverse and reverse although it is more scarce than a single misaligned die.

      mustbebob , I actually posted this dime and many coins on both sites. I am a supporter on both. I like to see what coin collector and expert opinions are so I can weigh the responses. Are you indicating I should have to choose a site to support and participate on? No! It had nothing to do with not liking to response given on Coin Community. Tbh. If you see it on both sites you would see I posted it here first. Thank you for making me aware that both dies can be misaligned but wouldn't that make it off center strike?

            Do you know the weight of the coin ?

            One side seems to be affected moreso than the other, it technically could be a misaligned die. If the die was misaligned,, slightly tilted it may have contributed to the coin receiving a weak rim to the south on the obverse.

            Photos unfortunately are flat so any cupping is difficult to see unless lighting is adjusted to show that condition.

              MintErrors, thank you for your response and pondering over this dime while getting sleep. The weight on this dime is proper at 2.3 grams. I have received a few different views as possibilities for this dime. I did take a few new pictures of this dime. My take on it being damaged is if you look the obverse edge is faintly still raised. If the flat area on the obverse was damaged would it not smooth that slight remaining edge? This photo shows what looks to be abit of rolling/cupping to the reverse affected flattened area that I am attaching for viewing.

                No I am not. I never said that. I just remembered this (your) coin from one of my very infrequent visits to the other site. That's all. You didn't seem too happy with some of the responses you got there. That's all too. Don't read more into it than what is actually there. Seems like the same thing is happening here, and you are tending to disagree or question what other are telling you. That's fine. You are trying to find out about a coin, but please don't tune out other opinions. One of them may be the fact you are seeking.

                I thought so many years ago, but no, it is simply a misaligned die, An off center strike would have some portion of a device missing. The misaligned die shows all the devices, but the strike is not centered on the coin and has a rim that is thicker on one side than the other.
                That information came directly from Mike Diamond when I sent his an example of a 1983 cent where both sides were misaligned. He stated that that is what makes it more scarce. Usually, a misaligned die affect normally only one side.

                  mustbebob, thank you for breaking that down so I can understand. Yes, it sometimes does feel like pulling teeth to find out information about my coins. I do tend to ask alot of questions or question answers so I can learn more, which may come across as discrediting which is not my intent. It can become frustrating. I'm just trying to understand so next time I run across the same situation on a coin I can spot it and also so I can help others as well.
