CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

  • 2022 P Quarter, die chips/gauges possible doubling.

This 2022P Quarter has what appear to be die chips/gauges and light clashing or scratching throughout the obverse and reverse. Washingtons eye appears doubled to me. The clashing runs from the field into the nose causing a small blemish outside the nose in the field. The eye looks to be doubling of the eye and also looks like Washington is tearing up. The mouth area shows a small die/ gauge. The lock of hair towards the ponytail appears to have a die chip behind it that appears to be in line with the crack running from the nose, eye, ear and then through this lock of hair. On the reverse there is a die chips aside the second, third, fifth and sixth beam. There are also chips on the top left branches of the U, N, T, in UNITED, T in STATES and inside and between the O and U in ANGELOU. I'm not sure if this would qualify as a DDO or if it just has multiple die chips/gauges caused from the clashing running through devices on the obverse and reverse. Thanks for any info, comments or feedback from the community regarding this Quarter.

I wouldt classify all of this as debris and die chips. The on within the eye as well.

I agree. Chips and such are pretty common, especially on newer designs. There does seem to be an overabundance of them. I have not even seen one of these yet.

I have seen the area pointed out on the 'OU' in Angelou on every one of these I have looked at...., kinda like shadows of the letters, not die chips or debris but obviously common. I do not have the name for it.

Just a simple point to make here, and that is the proper terminology is 'gouges', not gauges. I know it's picky, but it is Tuesday. (lol)

No worries Bob. It is Tuesday. These phones and their auto correcting spelling is to blame, lol
