Is the missing design on reverse Monticello building due to a grease strike? Coin has been in circulation 51 years but can't imagine how circulation could have caused both sides to wear away in the same manner. Thanks again.

Good day,
Is the missing design on reverse Monticello building due to a grease strike? Coin has been in circulation 51 years but can't imagine how circulation could have caused both sides to wear away in the same manner. Thanks again. You do not have permission to view this gallery.

This is a heavily worn nickel, but E PLURIBUS UNUM is also affected. It might be a grease struck but it could easily be wear on EPU and an over polishing job on the top of Monticello.
Difficult to tell unless the coin is in hand. It's a pretty minor if it is a struck through grease.Last edited by MintErrors; 04-11-2022, 06:26 PM.Gary Kozera
