CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Morgan struck through and retained Scarface

Morgan struck through and retained wire or staple... Can't find anything that I've ever happened before Mike diamond looked at my photos and videos and confirmed that's what it is so it must be quite valuable but I can't seem to get any help with that other than that I was done over the internet too... What are your guys' thoughts

More that likely wire or a sliver of material from a punched out piece of planchet. Over the years it apparently hasn't rusted.
IF it was iron based. The item might attract a magnet - WARNING... a strong magnet may scratch the coin, be careful on type of magnet to use. I'd start with a weak fridge magnet. It doesn't have to pick up the coin, only be attracted to the area where the wire is (if steel/iron based).

The only half decent strike through I could find was on Ebay:

CONECA protocols frown on assuming a price on coins, so use the above reference with a grain of salt. Depends on the year/mintmark, grade and market.

I've thought about the magnet but I'm scared that it might actually pull it out of the coin I don't want that to happen as it would ruin the value of it whatever that may be.... What about sending it to you guys for attribution? I really want to send it through for the greater and have the time or money for that....but I guess IF That's what I have to do I guess that's what I'll do

And I think that that Ebay listing you sent me I've seen before, and it doesn't even hold a candle to the one I've got as mine is retained and mine's also on the obverse not the reverse so with that in mind I believe mine would/should be worth quite a bit more than that... It's just so hard because there is like these they're they're one offices not replicated so without being able to find one that's been somewhat comparable sold anywhere it's really hard to decipher a price and that's why Mike diamond says pretty much the same thing he's like I wouldn't even know what to say because there's never been one on the market. I'll see if I can find the message that he sent me her posted on my FB post so I can see exactly how we worded it

We do not 'attribute' errors. What is is you need exactly? If you need a letter from us that say's it is a struck through wire, our examiner could possibly do that for you. You would need to contact him and ask if he is willing to look at it. Any decent third party grading service would know what this is. The addition to what is put on the slab is between you and them, and how much you are willing to pay them for an error designation. I have no idea how you can expect anyone from even giving you a ballpark figure. Yours is not the first retained wire in a coin. It may be on the Morgan dollar though. Either way, it is a way cool find.

Here is a link for a google search on struck through wire coins. It does include at least an Ike dollar. Maybe this will help you out a bit?

The reason we will not and can not give you a price here as it is terribly subjective. Any price is always between the buyer and seller. If you are a member, the email address of the error examiner is in your ErrorScope magazine or on line guide.
