CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 2014 D Washington Quarter(odd rim)

    1. Any ideas? The rim is smooth, weighs 5.6g, and its thinker than other state quarters.

Humm this is odd. It's thicker but weighs the same as a normal everyday quarter at 5.6x grams.

Here are the specs on the US coins...

    https://www.usmint.gov/learn/coin-an...specifications

It might simply be one of three things:

    1. A partial collar since the reeding is only partially there

    2. A possible dryer coin, but the design elements on the coin near the rim does not exhibit anything like a dryer coin.

    3. Somebody with too much time on their hands messed with this quarter outside of the mint, and makes us scratch our heads.

Usually, a broad strike would result in no reeding, but the coin would be a larger diameter. The rim looks too shiny to be from a 8 year old coin too. I am thinking that this is some sort of garage coin.

Grinder or somehow squeezed it in a circular vice, perhaps like for encased coins?

It's a bird! It's a plane! Aw nuts... It's merely two die scratches!
