199? penny

I have compared this penny to images on pages everyone here has suggested that I start doing to get a better idea and understanding. However, I am at loss on this one. I'm not sure if this is die deuteration or something else. Can someone tell me as to what i am seeing here on this 199? penny? And if you look at the back of the head and noise. Also looks to have an eye behind an eye and 2 cheek boons

I am thinking struck through a late stage die cap.

Its weird for sure.

Almost all of the struck through late stage die caps I have seen were only struck once.
This appears to have more than one strike.

The odd thing is, while it appears to be struck numerous times on the obverse, the reverse shows no indications of multiple strikes.

I cannot tell from the photos if one of the strikes is normal and the other strike is incused. Are both versions of LIBERTY raised?

BUT, in my opinion, the appearance of the obverse die just does not look like a "normal" struck through late stage capped die. It is hard to explain. It doesn't look "ghostly" enough.

To me, it looks more like struck through grease in appearance than a struck through late stage die cap. But that does not explain the potential double strikes. It cannot be due to a capped die being loose and shifting between strikes, because that image would normally be a brockage (mirror image - backwards).

I GUESS the coin the OP has could be a very late stage struck thru capped die, with parts of it broken out...but I would think there would be uneven areas noted on the obverse where some of the die cap was and was no longer. Some how the obverse die was jarred loose and rotated between strikes?

Could it be a garage coin? dunno.
