2022 P Jefferson Nickel - weird nickel thing #1
Hi All. I have a couple of weird nickel things to run by the experts. This has a... struck through? maybe? on the reverse. It is raised and runs from below the O in Monticello up through the Building and to the rim and looks like a ribbon. There is a stain to the left of the O. Thank you for your thoughts.Tags: None

Here is a possible explanation to what you have. See if the explanation matches what you see.

This is why the coin should be examined by an error specialist. If it were a variety, I could figure it out, but even though I have a good grasp of error coins, I don't know it all, especially with things like this. Let's leave this for a while and see if anyone else has an opinion on what this may be. If not, we can get you some info on who to send it to. OK?Bob Piazza

I am thinking it's a die crack from the "o", into the building. Above the building could be a die as well just not as defined.
Strike throughs are typically something foreign, in a place it should not be. In this context, the struck thru is typically smashed between planchet and the dies. That usually means it would be dented or incused into the planchet/coin.
Sure it could be debris incused on the die as well, but my only concern is that its strong in one location and weak in others.
I just got home from work. I will see about revisiting this after a little R&R.Last edited by MintErrors; 08-09-2022, 08:52 AM.Gary Kozera
