CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    1955-s questions

I came across this gem in a roll. The pictures do not do it justice. My questions are:
    1) The small raised line running from the first 5 down toward the S mint mark, is that considered a die brake? If now what is it?
    2) The obverse has real nise toning but the reverse looks brand new, what caused this?
    3) what is the potential value of this coin?

It is a die gouge. I don't know if you knew this or not, but your coin is a listed Repunched Mintmark, and that gouge is the primary marker for it.
Coppercoins lists it as 1MM-010, and Wexler lists it as WRPM-009. Here is the link for the coppercoins listing.

Variety Vista does not list it currently.

To add to this, CONECA forum protocols frown on any questions that ask about value or unslabbed grades.

One side of the coin appears toned, the other less so. It is copper so oxidation will eventually get to it and make it brownish in color.

Sorry about asking about value. I am new to the site. I will not ask again.

No worries just letting you know and why you may not receive any answers about it.
