In my opinion, you already have your mind made up.
So I won't offer an opinion.
Apparently you seem not to need one.
It is one that you would not want to hear.Gary Kozera

It can't be a RPM, the mint stopped hand punching the MM in 1989. So knowing the minting processes it is in my opinion machine doubling. I have a box full of duds, don't get discouraged keep looking, study the minting processes and focus on known varieties and errors. And you will start finding things. I search hundreds of rolls a month and sometimes I go months without finding anything. So keep hunting.

I realize just how discouraging it can seem when everything you put on here ends up not being an error or variety. However, The one time you do find something, all of those other times just seem to go away and not matter.
You have to realize that the pure number of errors or varieties is very tiny compared to the number of coins minted. The job of the US Mint is to NOT let these anomalies get out. In the case of Machine Doubling, the Mint can not possibly catch all of those, and then it is cheaper to just let them go into circulation. The dies can become loose at any time, or something else happens with the machines.
Please don't come on here thinking that nothing you post will turn out to be anything substantial. A positive attitude, along with some self education can help a lot. It's just a matter of time before you will be successful.Bob Piazza
