1983 P Quarter die deterioration?

In my opinion, it is a well worn coin, but, there is more that die deterioration going on with this coin. I first looked at the reverse of this coin and think I can see some shearing. I think I can see a very thin line from the tip of the right wing to the U in UNITED. But, looking at Quarter dollar, I can see the line through Quarter Dollar as well. I then looked at the obverse and I knew my suspicions were a good bet.
The obverse has that halo style ring around the coin as well. The halo style ring is usually related to either a coin counting machine, or coin rolling machine. In my opinion, I think this coin suffers from a coin counting machine, since there is damage on both sides of the coin, vice just one. Coin rollers curl the paper rollers, which usually only affect one side of the coin.
It is probably a coin counter damage, and this can may have run circles from some time, enough to damage the devices. The key is that it's about the same distance from the rim. Distances can be different, it really depends on the design of the coin counter.Gary Kozera
