  • mint error on obverse of 2022 D Anna May Wong quarter?

Greetings. This is my first post to the CONECA forum after my introductory one. I found this 2022 D Anna May Wong quarter searching a roll, and it's got a very weak strike near the edge on the obverse. The mint mark is very weak, as well as the last digit of the date and the left side of the motto. The reverse looks normal. I would appreciate if anyone can shed like on how this came to be. Thank you.

Hello, it might be a struck through grease or debris. The working dies which are metal is squeezing a planchet of metal. Eventually some of the shards build up and can potentially clog a few letters and numbers. A grease filled die can do the same thing, but in normally is a little more wide spread ans can leave divots sunk into the coin. In any event, you won't get rich off of this, even if it was in BU condition.

    Happy hunting.

I agree with Gary. Struck through grease.
      Nice example.
