CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Pocket Change 1975D LMC RPM?

I think this 1975D LMC has an RPM. You can see in the pics what appears to be a second D over a D. What's the verdict? Please be kind.
    Thanks!

    Hi Fran,
With the absence of split or notched serifs or any extra portion of a secondary D, it is very hard to determine if you have a RPM.

The small D mint mark that was used in the 70s is particularly hard in spotting a RPM and only those that are obvious (with portions of the extra D seen outside the main confines of the mint mark) are listed. Looking at Dr. Wiles two reference books on RPMs, there is a total of just above 10 listed for 1973 through 1979. Coppercoins list 20 for those dates.

BJ, I've posted an additional closeup pic of my 1975D Lincoln Cent. The front view doesn't show the detail that this pic shows. What is your opinion after viewing this pic? Can you post a pic with the RPM notches you are speaking of so I know what I'm supposed to be looking for? Thank you! Fran

        Fran,
I know of only 4 1975D RPMs. CONECA lists two and coppercoins.com lists two different ones. By looking at your pics, it is just too difficult to tell if it's an RPM or not. I don't believe it is good idea to list a link to the coppercoins site here, but you can get an idea of what the RPMs for the 70's looked like if you go there and do a search. I am sure if it is all right, the moderators here will let me know if it is cool or not to link to that site for pictures and other info.

Bob - since Coppercoins is an educational site, I see absolutely no reason why there should not be links to Coppercoins when coin questions arise like this.

For all of you who do read this, there is no competition between our sites and many who belong to the Coppercoins forum also belong to the CONECA forum as well. That includes Mike Diamond, myself and Bob who also is a moderator on that site (CC) and a person that I should have included in my list of people qualified to look at a picture and tell what it is. We are here for your education and enlightenment, for the great hobby of coin collecting, specifically errors and varieties.

Thanks BJ. I just wanted to be sure.

To search the coppercoins database for varieties (no errors), you can use this link.

Just fill in the info you would like to search and it'll do the rest. You do not have to fill in all the blanks. If you have problems, many of us here can help you with your search.
