    1979 Penny Error vs Damage.

    Hello~

As stated in my welcome post, I have TONS of pennies that I am going through. I happened upon this one and thought it was grease or glue or such... but when I looked at it up close, you can actually feel the cracks in the penny and you can visualize a possible L and maybe the top loop of a B or O (circled in one of the pictures). The rainbow effect is beautiful and it is all metal, no substance on it at all. Just wondering what you all might think about it - is it just PM damage?

I appreciate your assistance and thoughts. Thank you and have a great day.

This is definitely glue or some other adhesive. I would suggest soaking the coin in pure acetone to soften and most likely remove it.
