I’ve been holding onto this penny for a while trying to decide if this is PMD or something more substantial. It is not magnetic and weighs 3.134g. What are your thoughts?

In my opinion, the cent is probably normal, but some one might have used some sort of adhesive to mount it some where for who knows what reason.
Or, it could have been dropped in some paint or epoxy, tails down.
To me, this is post mint damage.

Thank you for your insight! There isn’t any adhesive substance on the back of it at all though. It’s as if the entire zinc layer is exposed.

In 1944, that cent should have been copper. The steel cents weighs 2.7x grams. Your weight of the coin has it extremely close to a normal copper cent.

Hummm let's see if Bob has a suggestion of what to do with this. The cheapest way out is to have a CONECA examiner to look at the photos and determine if it is worth sending in. With the weight of the coin, it is screaming copper, but I think to be sure, it's safe to let the staff at CONECA to make a decision.

Typically under this forum, under CONECA SERVICES is an examiner sub forum, you can post your coin with as much info as you can. Some one should answer, and they may simply say it's nothing, or they need to see it. mustbebob is now mentioned here, more than likely he will give his opinion as well.

It looks like it has been filled with something, look at the rim you can see where some of it is on the rim and in some spots it is not. Just my opinion.

I agree, not too sure what it is, but it appears to have been mounted somewhere.
