CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Hello coin numismatic world, Bigtime13 here. Relatively new to coin collecting. Started in 2017. Love the adventure it has taken me on. And now I’m venturing into errors and varieties. Not a member of Concea yet, but soon will be. Have questions so hoping to find answers. 1st question, differentiating between machine doubling and doubled die, during the minting process as the planchette is being struck, is it a rarity for machine doubling to occur constantly on each strike of each planchette fed into dies or will there be a slight variation for each strike. Thanks for the add.

The MD occurs because there is a loose die, collar, or the die bounces based on striking pressure. It certainly is possible to have very similar MD on coins as the same thing is happening over and over again. There may be hundreds of thousands of coins struck with a single die set, so it is not a rarity at all. In addition, there could be subtle differences as the die or collar loosens up more and more during striking.
