CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Hello all. My name is Scott. I am from the mountains of North Carolina. I have always dabbled in money that caught my eye. I am now getting into the errors. I have recently found a coin that puzzles me. This is a 1989-D Washington quarter. Before I ask questions, I try to find the answers myself but this one has me stumpped. I dont have the best microscope yet so these pictures are the best I can do at this time. My question is: is this a repunched mint mark? If not what is it?

Two possibilities here. Could have been a die chip in the mintmark, or could be circulation damage where the mintmark was hit, and worn. Afraid there is no significant value, but there are some folks that collect 'filled' mint marks.
