CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Hello, new member here

I'm sort of new to collecting but have been somewhat adjacent to my father who was a lifetime collector. He mostly collected wheats from roll hunting while he picked up others from flea markets along the way. He passed a little while ago and his collection is with me now.

Initially I was turned off by the intricate level of detail that goes into errors and varieties but I'm slowly embracing it and getting up to speed.

My biggest challenge is recognizing double dies and even wonder if I'll ever be able to become proficient.

In the meantime I have been focusing on RPMs of which I've discovered a few and have a few questions that I'll post soon.

    Good luck and good hunting.

    John

      Thanks Pete,

He was a collector on a very small budget so the collection is a high volume of common dates with only a few key dates and better quality mixed in. I finally have everything sorted and now I'm trying to find the varieties and errors. He wasn't in tune in that area of the hobby and I'm trying to get up to speed.
