1962 25c Business Strike. CUD where mint mark should be? Cover up/Error?
I got this 1962 25c Business Strike out of a P&D mint set. On the reverse it has what looks like a CUD where the mint mark should be, but it is right where the mint mark should be, if it were to have one. This was part of the P set of my 1962 P&D mint set.You do not have permission to view this gallery.

In my opinion, in order for it to be a Cud, something related to it, has to touch the rim.
Back then Philadelphia mint did not use a mintmark on quarters. I think they had a mintmark in the early 1980s.
With most varieties, like a potential RPM, the mintmarks are easily recognizable even with die cracks or strike throughs. From the photo above, even though its pretty far away, whatever it is, it does not look like a "D". Its definately misshapened.
In order to make a logically opinionated guess, I believe we need a photo of the area, close up. In my signature block, i have a post that may help with taking a photo with a cell phone.
There are just three varieties for the Denver quarter :

Those three do not look like a match. I will attempt to circle back around here tomorrow. My eyes are crossed and i need a nice long sleep.Last edited by MintErrors; 05-09-2025, 11:55 PM.
