CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

It is a very strong die clash. That's a nice example and worth holding on to.

Thx so much for your response…I am just really confused by the shield design on the reverse and it being a 2013 coin…. Why would the Lincoln memorial die be anywhere near a shield type coin? I was thinking they must have stamped this coin on an old damaged planchet that was sitting around for years in a scrap bin or repair bin.

I did not pay attention to the date, and obviously, I am wrong. The marks do look like a memorial clash, but the more I look at it, the less certain I am. It appears that the reverse of a memorial coin was pressed into the obverse of your coin. That would make it post mint damage, or a 'garage job'. My apologies.

Not a problem. I look at his ear and bridge of nose and forehead and appears to me Lincoln’s face is on top of memorial. I believe a damaged Planchet was in a repair bin or someone’s tool box and got restamped years later. I work in auto industry and stamping plants. I am a tool
and die welder. A couple people have told me they think this is a Vise job. But I don’t think they could do that without smashing the date and the Liberty and his face details. Looks to me his ear is laying on top of a groove as well as the Y in liberty. I truly believe this is an error coin out of the mint. But I could be wrong. Thanks for your input. I do appreciate it.

In a case like this, where photos seem inconclusive, I would recommend sending it to an examiner. I will private message you with the email address of someone to help you.
