    1942 P Jefferson RPM 008?

I believe this coin is a good match to 1942 P rpm 008 (also listed in the Cherrypickers guide). Unfortunatly this coin does not show the die cracks shown in the Variety Vista vists photos. Since the mint mark is such a good match, could the coin have been from a die stage before the cracks? Please comment with your thoughts on the match and would the lack of die cracks disqualify the coin from the being attributed to the subject rpm?

Yes, the coin has a life before the die cracks. It just means its a earlier die stage than what is pictured. The varietyvista pictures show a stage C, so your coin may be a stage A, B or very early stage C.

Visually it looks like a match, and its a FS example which can bring a premium.

Did you do an overlay to confirm ? I am just curious. Its a question more than a poke to do it.

    Nice find.

Thanks for encouraging / teaching me to learn how to use an overlay. I don't know a meaningful way to post the results but It was quite satisfying to see them match up.

          Evening Ron,
I tried to post to the thread last night. Forum froze again before I could post. So try #2 and I will copy before I post reply

Comment about cropping: When I post for my website, I make sure the horizontal bottom of the "P" mintmark is flat or horizontal.
The "D mintmark is easier to crop over the top, it's just a bit flatter. S mintmark I draw a line under the serif and curve to square.
The photo's above have plenty of URIBUS of PlURIBUS to do an overlay. Most photo's shoot at 1200px X 900px then try the overlay. remember you will have to copy the photo you are overlaying and size to the same size.

BTW - This one is RPM008 you are correct.

Die state. - First - I'm not a big fan or trying to use a circulated coin for die state photo's. The photo needs definable markers. Those die cracks would need to be seen weaker and shown with arrows which would be very hard to distinguish on a circulated coin. If the coin is markerless then an attributer would need to show any marker to justify die state. Die scratch, Lathe marks around the rim without die pull lines. etc.

I think I can see die pull lines from some die wear. It's probably MDS without the coin in hand. A guess.
