CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Plenty of evidence of scraping or other damage on this coin. That's what it is on the mintmark too. Sorry.

Agreed. If a coin exhibits issues like this, I always have to assume the worse for the rest of the coin.
Another thing I suggest is, take a look at the coin attribution websites to see if they ever have reported such an variety of that year.
IF it was reported ( and it has not been) and it was THIS bold on a pretty beat up coin, then you could see a mint state one of these from across town.
This wouldn't have been the only one and well, this one still is not.

The only one on the Memorial cent was debunked.....

        Welcome Tyrone,
What I see is the upper loop of the primary mintmark is missing plus the coin is well worn. I agree with Gary and Bob that if this were a "D" in the lower loop then there should be more out there, in higher grade. plus I do not see anything within the upper right of the "S" that looks like it could be an OMM. Keep searching your on the right path, just takes time and patience..
