Evening, Notice the mintmark is flat or shelf like? That is always MD. I can see it a little less pronounced to the east of the 9 in the date also. Some call this localized MD. We have alot of this in the zinc cents. It's not an RPM Sorry. Keep looking, they are out there, just hard, and I mean hard in the zinc cents to find... Eric

Always important to ask if the question arises. That is why others are here - to help and offer opinions.
I like to use the "paper trick".
Take a piece of paper across the mintmark, just below the center.
Tick the vertical center bar on the known good mint mark and another good reference point, like dead-center of a curve.

Then slide that over to the possible other mintmark.
You can then see where the other parts of the possible mint mark might show.

I understand that mint marks were generally re-punched when the first (or more attempts) was not punched into the working die correctly. So some of the weaker mintmark might be very weak or not present at all. BUT, this give you a logical approach to see how far off the mintmark would be if in was an RPM., and where to look for hints.
I also assume that they are re-using the same punch to reapply/add another mint mark on top of the old one.Last edited by MintErrors; 04-30-2022, 09:15 AM.Gary Kozera
