  • 1925-S Buffalo Nickel FS-401

    Hello!
Just found this 1925-S in a hoard of buffalos i bought from a dealer going out of business. My question is…see the die clashing around the Indians face? Since I have a variety AND a mint error both on this one coin would that bring an additional premium over and above just the 2 Feather variety alone? I’m trying to decide if I want to sell this and put it in my store or add it to my personal collection. Thanks!!

Don...This will definitely be a case where someone who wants it with those attributes, might be willing to pay a bit more. In coin sales, usually it is the grade that garners the price. The fact it is an error or variety adds little to that price. This one technically could sell for a premium by an error collector, or a CPG coin collector. Maybe you can put it on your store with a caption stating that they should contact you directly if they are interested in purchasing it? You could get some interest in it that way while keeping it in your personal collection. You could then make up your mind based on the dialogue generated by it.

That’s a good point Bob. I’ve been going back and forth about which direction to go with it. I’m in no hurry to sell it so I may put a higher price on it and sit on for a while and see what happens. I saw where other 1925-S’s of a similar grade sold at over $100 graded by PCGS. I’m not about to deal with them right now and their ridiculous wait times though. Think I’ll try my hand at around $120-$130 and just let it sit in my store. If I get it I get it. If not Ive got no problem putting it in my personal collection anyway. Thanks Bob. How are you feeling? You feel like your getting better?

I am doing OK Don. It just takes a long time for me to recover and now the entire family (daughter, son-in-law and the three grand kids) are all positive too. My granddaughter picked it up at school. I know we teach them to share, but this is not exactly what we had in mind. Thanks very much for asking.

          Nice find and congrats.
I'm curious though if because both items are on the die if this should be labeled as a double variety. (Not variety and error)

Glad to hear you're on the mends, Bob.
Mentioning "share" reminded me of the old Cracker Jack commercial of the guy sitting on the park bench munching on some, when he asks a youngster what they learned in school that day. "Sharing!" was the reply. Don't remember if he gave up any Cracker Jacks or not. LOL
