CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

It is very difficult to say. The "D" 8has taken a lot of damage, to the point this this looks like machine doubling. With the middle of the "D" saturated with debris, it does not help trying to attribute this. We will have to wait until mustbebob comes along and see what he says. I will look to see if I have one of these in storage, I may be able to go there Sunday morning.

This is not RPM-005. The mintmark position is incorrect as the variety example is closer to the date. Gary is correct though, the damage makes these difficult to attribute.

Continuing on, I was able to give this cent an over night soak in Extra Virgin olive oil and then to an acetone soak over night between two sterile cotton facial pads. (D down) I did no digging or scrubbing. Upon examination I found that a lot of the debris in the D was gone. Now just to find a semblance to a RPM if there is one. Thanks

There is evidence of MD on the date also...especially the 5. IMHO this is all MD.

Agreed. Although this is better photos, the end result is the same, it's machine doubling or damage, along with circulation damage.
