  • 1997 D Lincoln DDO?

1997-D Lincoln: I can't find anything else mentioning it, but to me this looks a DDO. There appears to be a partial double of the last T in Trust. Comments appreciated. I can see why you thought this might be a doubled die. There is similar precedent on some earlier cents. However, your coin just shows split plating. Your photos are perfect for analyzing this. Well done!

Interesting - Thanks Bob! Would you be able to briefly explain how you can tell the difference? That way, I (hopefully)
won't unnecessarily take up your time if I see it again!

You coin in my opinion is what Bob called it. Basic terms , the die struck the coin hard enough to break through the copper layer of the zinc cent.it looks like it was slight and pushed the toward the rim. There might be more hints of it, especially 180 degrees from where you currently see it.

I can see it on the S and T of trust.

Here is an article that shows some extreme versions of split plating..

Thanks Gary. Your explanation helped a bunch - now I can see what to look for, and the coin definitely shows the break. I will check out the articles too.
