CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

1970 D Jefferson Nickel DDR? And what is wrong with his face? Looks like a melted layer over his cheeks? Thoughts? 20241225_215321.jpg 20241225_215338.jpg 20241225_214524.jpg 20241225_214528.jpg 20241225_215119.jpg 20241225_215145.jpg

In my opinion, i can't tell if it's some type of dried liquid adhered to the coin or its something else. It does not look like lamination. It looks like it's on the higher parts of the coin, so it would make sense that if it were face down in some type of liquid that was shallow in depth, it would have adhered to most of that area on the coin.

It can be difficult to assess a coin via photos. It more than likely is post mint damage, something done after it left the mint. The original strike looks OK, it's just what ever that extra "stuff" is...
