CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    What is this? (YES...I know the answer)

    OK, this is a 1968-S Proof Lincoln Cent.
    I will add as many photos as I can of the "subject coin".
    Feel free to debate on what YOU think it is....
    I will let comments and questions come in for a while and then we can debate on what we think it is.

      for my part, if it wern't for the OF image, i would attribute what i see as nothing more than proof imaging artifacts. 99% of the proof images i see (from non-numismatists) are just various forms of light refraction/reflection BUT since it is you, i gotta believe you aren't trolling us.

      that effect looks familiar but i cannot think of a term for it.

      w/o looking it up, it could be a listed variety albeit not how they usually look. (at least from the images)

      i'll say 60% chance it is a listed variety, 20% chance it is just nothing. MD/lighting issue etc., 10% chance of it being error, 10% i'm not fully awake yet and i'm talking out of my butt.

        @occnumis2021

        No trickery, trolling or anything deceptive. I am just trying to see if there is any interest in these type of posts. Most members may come here to drop a note for their coins and may only reply to their own posts.

        I used the proper lighting to show the condition vice trying to hide it. It is not slabbed. Its photos of an actual coin that looks the way it does in the photos.

          Is it the 1968S WWHO-001 causing the doubling from the obv die paired with the rev used for the 1968S 1C WDDO-001?

            This is a Proof coin in my photos above.
            There is no doubled die evident on the obverse of this coin.

                Its just worthless damage. A proof cent is typically struck more than once. This coin exhibits a lot of the worthless doubling / mechanical damage signs. Especially on the columns, side of the building and of course the letters.

                I am knee deep in projects this week. I am building three 6 foot long 24 inch wide raised garden planters raised 2 feet and painting the office. The weather is holding for now, so I will be outside more than in. I love being outdoors in the Spring and Fall.

                Hold the fort. I will check in on occasion, but it may be later in the evening if any energy is left in da tank.
