CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

This is a lightly circulated coin, RD and also has a cracked die (reverse from rim to building).

Can you be a bit more specific about what you are seeing? I do see some plating bubbles to the south of the earlobe, but I want to make sure that is what you are referring to.

        Thanks for your response Bob.
if this seemingly doubling was in the shape of an ear, I would say it's a doubled ear- but it not. It would seem like a doubling of hair or something like that, also look towards the back of neck.

No doubled dies documented for this year/mintmark...

I agree with Bob, its probably not variety related. If there was doubling on hair, in my opinion, there would be doubling elsewhere.

Thanks also for your response, I believe I'm seeing other elements of doubling, would be grateful if Coneca would take a firsthand look. Also where other elements of doubling is concerned are there other elements of doubling on the 1988 FS 101 apart from the doubled ear? Also is the cracked die on reverse of any significance?

Your arrows point to what I believe are plating blisters. There is nothing in those areas that they could double. I do agree with Gary that had this been actual hub doubling, then there would be more areas affected around the doubled area. As far as die cracks, they are incredibly common, and unless very severe, not worth a premium.
