if this seemingly doubling was in the shape of an ear, I would say it's a doubled ear- but it not. It would seem like a doubling of hair or something like that, also look towards the back of neck.You do not have permission to view this gallery.

No doubled dies documented for this year/mintmark...
I agree with Bob, its probably not variety related. If there was doubling on hair, in my opinion, there would be doubling elsewhere.

Thanks also for your response, I believe I'm seeing other elements of doubling, would be grateful if Coneca would take a firsthand look. Also where other elements of doubling is concerned are there other elements of doubling on the 1988 FS 101 apart from the doubled ear? Also is the cracked die on reverse of any significance?You do not have permission to view this gallery.

Your arrows point to what I believe are plating blisters. There is nothing in those areas that they could double. I do agree with Gary that had this been actual hub doubling, then there would be more areas affected around the doubled area. As far as die cracks, they are incredibly common, and unless very severe, not worth a premium.Bob Piazza
