CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

I see this 3.09g ruslincoln is from being in the ground/environment but how does copper rust or is it from the 5% tin/zinc content?
I was under the impression that is why it was used in the first place. Interesting to say the least. I believe I posted a similar one at an earlier time but it wasn't this bad.

I'm my opinion, if this was in the ground, the chemical reaction between the earth and the coin would eat away at the surface. It may look similar in appearance. This may not be rust, but may be due to environmentally damaged.

It's difficult to know what happened to the coin, since it's been circulated. It could have been exposed/abused by so many possibilities our heads would spin.
