I see this 3.09g ruslincoln is from being in the ground/environment but how does copper rust or is it from the 5% tin/zinc content?

I'm my opinion, if this was in the ground, the chemical reaction between the earth and the coin would eat away at the surface. It may look similar in appearance. This may not be rust, but may be due to environmentally damaged.
It's difficult to know what happened to the coin, since it's been circulated. It could have been exposed/abused by so many possibilities our heads would spin.
