1880 Indian Head Penny Die Break. DDO?
Hello all, so I recently bought a small lots of Indian head cents and recieved this 1880 IHP with what I would believe to be a late stage die break/breaks. I have found this error online but not to this degree . I'm not sure but it may be a DDO as well. There appears to be doubling on obverse and reverse. I don't know alot about the stamping of the IHP but the break starts at 1 o'clock obverse before the O in OF and finished at around 5:30 through the 0 in 1880. The breaks are also visible on the reverse of the penny. Any input on would be appreciated. My first coin share on the Coneca Forum. Thanks for welcoming me into the fold. You do not have permission to view this gallery.

There are many cases of die cracks on IH cents. I do not know if anyone documented every example, but the bigger cracks sometimes bring a premium. I can't quite make it out on your photos photos though.
As far as the doubling you are observing, Indian Head cents were notorious for what they called 'Longacre Doubling', There is a lot of information concerning this doubling. The link below shows the search page for it. Take your pick and see if this looks like what you see.

Thank you for your reply mustbebob. I uploaded more are pics of this IHP that hopefully better show the die cracks. The doubling I think I am seeing is in front of the Indians face in under United States, quite abit away from the device. That being said I am not a expert so again thank you for replying. You do not have permission to view this gallery.

Thanks Jason,
Yeah, my new usb microscope lighting is making the pics harder to translate. The coin isn't eaten up tbh. I had this penny evaluated at a local shop this week. I was advised by the owner to send it in to have it examined further. It does have cracks in the collar at 1 o'clock and 5:35 My pics above have alot of glare. I didn't post collar pics pics due to my two previous pic posts on this coin. I don't want to be that person.
Thanks Dave

By collar, do you mean rim? Die cracks are common, and need to add up to something substantial to mean anything. As Bob noted, Longacre doubling is prevalent on IHC. From the photos included, I just am not sure what's going on.Jason Cuvelier
